Gold Series - Kenya Kaganda

Our Gold Series of coffees feature premium, limited-edition offerings that represent the truly special side of coffee. We purchase small amounts of ones that we find unique and interesting, and we roast them until they're sold out. Once they're gone, they're gone.

A heavy body and notes of papaya are what stand out in this unique offering from central Kenya.

This coffee is processed at the Kaganda mill, which is part of a cooperative that serves more than 1,100 members. It's dominated by SL-28 and SL-34: Kenya's signature varieties that were developed by scientists in the 1930s for their drought resistance, cup quality and high yield at altitude — more than a mile above sea level, in this case.

This coffee was grown in red volcanic soil at between 1,750-1,850 meters. The higher coffee is grown, the slower cherries ripen, which generally leads to a sweeter cup of coffee.
